Girl Security Appoints National Security Leader Suzanne Spaulding as Board Chair

January 5, 2026

Girl Security is honored to announce that Suzanne Spaulding, one of the nation’s leading national security experts, has been named Chair of the Girl Security Board of Directors, effective January 2026.

Suzanne is a senior adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and a member of the Cyberspace Solarium Commission 2.0. She previously served as undersecretary at the Department of Homeland Security, leading what is now CISA, where she oversaw efforts to strengthen cybersecurity and protect the nation’s critical infrastructure. Suzanne has held senior roles under both Republican and Democratic administrations, in Congress, and at the CIA, and continues to serve on multiple corporate and advisory boards.

Suzanne shared her enthusiasm for the Chair role, stating: “Girl Security's mission has never been more important. I'm excited and honored to support the Girl Security team, staff, volunteers, partners, mentors and mentees, and all the participants in their various programs, as they build inter-generational insights and relationships, implementing innovative pathways that enhance security and resilience for all of us."

As Board Chair, Suzanne will shape strategic direction, strengthen Board governance, and partner with leadership to advance Girl Security’s mission.  Suzanne will succeed Marilyn Diamond in the role, with Marilyn continuing her service as Chair Emerita.  Both Suzanne and Marilyn are inaugural Board members, having served since 2019. Girl Security extends its immense gratitude to Marilyn for her inspiring leadership and dedication as Chair; her impact will continue to strengthen Girl Security’s mission and future.
